Senior Environmental Business Partner

Work. We have an exciting opportunity open for a Senior Environmental Business Partner in our North Region — based in Townsville, Clare, or Mareeba.  In this role, you’ll lead environmental risk management across critical water infrastructure, ensuring compliance and embedding systems that protect natural resources and support sustainable operations.

Key responsibilities include:-

  • Build strong partnerships with leaders to advise on environmental constraints and project requirements
  • Manage complex environmental risks, including incident response and regulatory engagement
  • Lead assurance activities to ensure compliance with environmental approvals, licences, and standards
  • Develop and maintain best-practice policies, procedures, and systems that support sustainable operations

Please note that due to the nature of this role, there will be travel involved to other Sunwater regional assets within the North region.

We’re seeking a skilled professional with proven experience in environmental management across commercial settings. You’ll bring strong knowledge of sustainability, environmental legislation, natural resource management, and current industry practices and technologies. With 7+ years in a similar role, you’ll hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant environmental discipline and demonstrate expertise in maintaining ISO-accredited environmental management systems.

Success in this role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with key stakeholders and regulators. You’ll bring advanced written communication skills, with experience crafting clear procedures and technical reports on complex environmental issues. Your analytical mindset will help you use research and data to shape strategies that reduce environmental impacts and support sustainable outcomes.

This is a full-time opportunity, available for an immediate start (or in the New Year), based at either our Townsville, Clare or Mareeba offices. At Sunwater, we have a genuine emphasis on work/life balance and to ensure you are well-rewarded for your dedication and hard work, this role offers an attractive salary starting from $156,360, plus 12.75% superannuation and 17% leave loading.
